"Helping People Move Toward Christlikeness"
Just before leaving the earth, Jesus gathered his disciples and gave them this basic
and direct mission, "Go and make disciples!" The church exists to make
disciples, people who are becoming more and more like the one they follow.
Therefore Bedford Community Church exists for the purpose of "Helping people
move toward Christlikeness." BCC began with the burning desire to be true to the
very reason Jesus wanted his church to exist in the first place: to make disciples, not
just church attenders.
This fire drives all we do as a church. Our ministries, structures and processes are
all designed to build a community where people of any spiritual level can learn
to live life as a disciple, encouraged by others committed to that same purpose.
When we talk about "Helping people move toward Christlikeness," this is
what we mean:
Helping
- Talking about God in a clear, culturally relevant way
- Helping people meet their ultimate need: a relationship with God
People
- People are our focus, not programs or buildings
- Every age: infants, toddlers, children, teenagers and adults
- Every individual: our family, our church, our community and our world
Move
- Spiritual growth is normal for every Christian
- We endeavor to move toward our goal as a church
Toward
- Our focus and direction remains constant
- Many methods, one mission
Christlikeness
- A disciple who looks more and more like his master
- Our goal as a church is to develop mature disciples as Jesus commanded
