A Little More About our History
Bedford Community Church is a testimony to God's ability to use ordinary people who
trust Him, to bring about extraordinary results, that accomplish His purposes and
demonstrate His power. In the early 1990's, Lee and Shirley Galucki were wrestling with
where they believed God wanted them to serve Him upon Lee's completion of seminary. Over a
two year period, God led them to Bedford, New Hampshire to begin what would later be known
as Bedford Community Church.
Beginnings can often be a place of humility and discouragement, and starting a church
is no exception. A year after the Galucki's arrival in New Hampshire, there was little to
indicate that this move was directed by God. Not only was there no evidence of a future
church in the works, there weren't even people desiring to be a part of small group. By
the Fall of 1994 Lee asked God to affirm this work, if it was His work, by sending someone
with an interest in the church by the end of the year.
That Christmas, the first couple did just that. In the months following, Dave and Sunny
Reed caught the vision and by Spring a small group started gathering with the intent to
someday begin Bedford Community Church. In the Summer of 1995, BCC was incorporated and in
the following October opened its doors for its first public worship service. Fifty three
people came to a barn to "check out" what God was doing.
Why another church?
From its inception, BCC has desired to be an influence on the spiritual climate in this
area by its distinctive nature and approach. First, its approach to worship would have a
clear contemporary yet biblical focus. That meant that everything, including our music,
teaching, use of the arts, and leadership dynamic would be influenced by this distinctive.
Second, a focus on intentional spiritual growth in discipleship, rather than an attitude
of employing church growth strategies just to fill seats, was implemented. And third, a
desire to reach out to those who were not a part of the "church scene." These
distinctive traits have paved the way for continued growth since the inaugural service and
are still a major part of who we are today.
God's provisions
God has been faithful to BCC in many ways since its inception. He has always
provided a place to meet, whether it was the barn, the Wayfarer Inn for six
months, the fire station for five years, or Faith Christian Center
for nearly 3 years. God has taken care of His flock here in
New Hampshire. Along with those physical needs, God has provided for us in other tangible
ways. He has brought us those with the gifts of teaching, helps, administration,
exhortation, leadership as well as many other gifts to help accomplish His purposes here
at BCC. We praise God for His blessings and ask for His continued guidance and wisdom as
He unfolds our future. We are grateful to all of those who have invested themselves for
God's kingdom right here in our corner of the world. We rejoice for what God has done in
our midst and look forward to what He will do in the years ahead!
